Player Instructions

Player instructions are tactical instructions that affect the way individual players play. They are set by player roles and duties in the first instance but can also be edited manually.

Some player instructions are hidden from view. Hidden player instructions are set by player roles and duties but cannot be edited manually.

UI
  • Tactics > Overview tab
    • Formation graphic
      • Enables you to manually edit player instructions for each playing position or player by clicking the appropriate playing position icon.
      • Select Position to edit player instructions for any player who you use in that playing position and select Personalised to edit player instructions for the currently selected player whenever he is in that playing position.
      • Click the Edit/Add button at the top-right of the screen to edit player instructions.
  • Tactics > Player tab
    • Provides an alternative UI for editing player instructions.

Analysed below for each player instruction is:

  • Game description – the description of the player instruction as given in the game.
  • Player attributes – suitable player abilities and attributes for the player instruction, including those for which good ratings can make the player instruction more effective and those for which poor ratings can be covered by the player instruction.
  • Complementary player traitsplayer traits that make a player more likely to follow the player instruction.
  • Contrasting player traits – player traits that make a player less likely to follow the player instruction.

Hidden player instructions are written in terms of their related playing methods.

When Opposition Has the Ball

More Urgent Pressing Intensity

Game description:

More Urgent pressing intensity encourages players to make the effort to harass any opposing player that has possession in hope of forcing a mistake and ceding the ball to them.

  • Good awareness (Anticipation)
  • Good decision making (Decisions)
  • Good mobility (Acceleration, Agility, Balance, Pace)
  • Good closing down ability (Positioning)
  • Good tackling ability (Tackling)
  • Perhaps poor focus (Composure, Concentration)
  • Perhaps poor physical presence (Strength)
  • Perhaps poor aerial presence (Jumping Reach)
  • Perhaps poor marking ability (Marking)
  • Perhaps poor clearing ability (Heading)

Less Urgent Pressing Intensity

Game description:

Less Urgent pressing intensity asks players to retain their defensive shape and make it hard for the opponent to break them down, rather than risk being caught out of position when closing down.

  • Good aerial presence (Jumping Reach)
  • Good marking ability (Marking)
  • Good clearing ability (Heading)

  • Perhaps poor decision making (Decisions)
  • Perhaps poor mobility (Acceleration, Agility, Balance, Pace)

  • Perhaps poor tackling ability (Tackling)

Mark Tighter

Game description:

Mark Tighter asks players to stick particularly tight to their assigned opponent in defensive situations so as to limit the space they have in which to attack the ball.

  • Good movement (Anticipation, Decisions)
  • Good physical presence (Balance, Strength)

Tackle Harder

Game description:

Tackle Harder encourages players to be forceful and combative when challenging for possession.

  • Good physical presence (Balance, Strength)
  • Good tackling ability (Tackling)

Ease Off Tackles

Game description:

Ease Off Tackles asks players to consider the ramifications of an aggressive mistimed tackle and instead will encourage them to pick their moments in a more timely fashion.

Mark Specific Player

Game description:

Mark Specific Player instructs a player, often a defensive-minded midfielder, to closely follow an opponent round the pitch in an effort to mark them out of the game.
