Hidden Player Instructions

Hidden player instructions include:

  • Rush out (GKs only) – the goalkeeper is more likely to take up more advanced positions when the opposition team has possession and look for opportunities to run forward to intercept the ball when it is moved behind his defence.
  • Track back – the player is more likely to run back into deeper positions as the opposition team moves the ball beyond him and towards the goal.
  • Move into a more advanced position to close down – the player is more likely to take up more advanced positions when the opposition team has the ball and look for opportunities to apply pressure to the player on the ball or intercept the ball early.
  • Move into a deeper position to sit off – the player is more likely to take up deeper positions when the opposition team has the ball and look for opportunities to intercept the ball if it is moved beyond more advanced teammates.
  • Sit between the lines – the player is less likely to run forward into space when his teammates have possession and he is in a horizontal channel (in particular, the space between the opposition defence and midfield).
    • Complementary player traits – Likes Ball Played Into Feet
    • Contrasting player traits – Gets Forward Whenever Possible, Gets Into Opposition Area (only relevant in more advanced areas), Hugs Line (for flank players)
  • Make surging forward runs – the player is more likely to take up more advanced positions when his teammates have possession and look for opportunities to run forward into space.
    • Complementary player traits – Arrives Late in Opponents’ Area (except for STCs and AM(R/L/C)s) (only relevant in more advanced areas)
    • Contrasting player traits – Stays Back At All Times
  • Make darting forward runs – when a nearby teammate has possession the player is more likely to run forward into space ahead of the ball.
    • Contrasting player traits – Stays Back At All Times
  • Collect the ball – when a nearby teammate has possession the player is more likely to move closer to the ball in order to receive it more easily.
    • Complementary player traits – Comes Deep To Get Ball, Likes Ball Played Into Feet
    • Contrasting player traits – Gets Forward Whenever Possible, Gets Into Opposition Area (only relevant in more advanced areas), Hugs Line (for flank players), Likes To Beat Offside Trap (for STCs and AM(R/L/C)s)
  • Drop deep – the player is more likely to take up deeper positions when his teammates have possession in order to receive the ball or help teammates to cycle possession.
    • Complementary player traits – Comes Deep To Get Ball, Likes Ball Played Into Feet
    • Contrasting player traits – Gets Forward Whenever Possible, Gets Into Opposition Area (only relevant in more advanced areas)
  • Make lateral runs – the player is more likely to move laterally into space when his teammates have possession.
    • Contrasting player traits – Hugs Line (for flank players)
  • Carry the ball – the player is more likely to move forward with the ball into space when he has possession.
    • Complementary player traits – Brings Ball Out of Defence (for DCs), Runs With Ball Down Left (for left flank players), Runs With Ball Down Right (for right flank players), Runs With Ball Through Centre (for central players, and flank players who move into central areas)
    • Contrasting player traits – Dwells On Ball, Runs With Ball Rarely
  • Make dribbles into channels – the player is more likely to move forward with the ball into space between horizontally adjacent opposition players when he has possession.
    • Contrasting player traits – Dwells On Ball, Runs With Ball Rarely
  • Use creative freedom – the player is more likely to use his intelligence to decide what action he should take when he has possession, rather than following his tactical instructions.
    • Complementary player traits – Dictates Tempo, Stops Play
    • Contrasting player traits – Dwells On Ball, Plays No Through Balls, Plays Short Simple Passes
  • Use tactical discipline – the player is more likely to follow his tactical instructions to decide what action he should take when he has possession, rather than using his intelligence.
    • Contrasting player traits – Dictates Tempo
  • Focus play (to playmaker focal role) – the players teammates are more likely to pass the ball to him when he is within the appropriate passing range, as influenced by passing directness instructions.
  • Focus play directly (to target-man focal role) – the players teammates are more likely to pass the ball to him, increasing their passing range, as influenced by passing directness instructions, if necessary.
    • Complementary player traits – Plays With Back To Goal (for STCs and AMCs)
    • Contrasting player traits – Comes Deep To Get Ball, Likes Ball Played Into Feet
